RD1 Clothing Welcomes Henri-Lloyd

We’re thrilled to be introducing Henri-Lloyd to our menswear collection. For owner Mickey, this isn’t just another brand—it’s a piece of his past. Henri-Lloyd was a key part of his wardrobe growing up, and we’ve got the photos to prove it! Known for its heritage, innovation, and strong ties to football terrace culture, Henri-Lloyd is a perfect fit for RD1’s focus on timeless style with substance.

The Henri-Lloyd Legacy

Henri-Lloyd’s story began in Manchester in 1963, when Henri Strzelecki and Angus Lloyd set out to create the best waterproof clothing in the world. Initially crafted for sailors, the brand quickly became a trailblazer in technical outerwear, pioneering innovations like seam-taping for waterproofing, Velcro closures, and non-corrosive zips.

Henri Lloyd’s reputation for durability and high performance saw it embraced by elite sailors and explorers, from Sir Robin-Knox Johnston, the first man to sail solo and non-stop globally, to Sir Ben Ainslie, one of the most successful Olympic sailors in history.

The brand became a trusted name for anyone seeking reliable, expertly crafted gear. Over time, Henri-Lloyd’s appeal expanded beyond the sailing world. Its clean, practical designs and premium materials made it popular with a new audience.

By the 1980s, Henri-Lloyd had entered football terrace culture, with casual and style-conscious fans embracing the brand. Iconic Pop Culture Moments Henri-Lloyd became a cultural icon in the 1980s and 90s. The Paninaro movement in Milan adopted it, and the Consort Jacket became part of their uniform.

In the UK, the brand became synonymous with the Madchester scene, with stars like Noel Gallagher spotted wearing Henri-Lloyd pieces like the Padstow knit.

Henri-Lloyd’s terrace culture connection was further cemented in 2004 when Danny Dyer wore a Henri-Lloyd jacket in the cult film The Football Factory. These moments highlight the brand’s ability to transcend its nautical roots and become a symbol of style for football fans and beyond.

Innovation Meets Timeless Style

Henri-Lloyd’s commitment to innovation remains at the heart of its identity. From the invention of Velcro in clothing to integrating harnesses and buoyancy aids in jackets, the brand has consistently pushed boundaries. Its Consort Jacket, first introduced in 1965, is a testament to the blend of function and timeless design that defines Henri-Lloyd.
