What is Mod Style?
Mod style began in post-war Britain during the late 1950s and early 60s. It was led by a new generation who had money in their pockets and wanted to spend it on good clothes, great music and nights out. Inspired by modern jazz, sharp tailoring and Italian fashion, these young people became known as the “Modernists” – or Mods.
Their clothing choices were more than just fashion. Dressing well was a way to show independence and reject the older generation’s way of life. Mods stood for change. Their slim-fit suits, button-down shirts and polished shoes were symbols of confidence and individuality.
