Arthur Benjamin Sugarman came back from America with an idea: a properly made button-down shirt, cut slimmer than anything on the British high street, with a back pleat, locker loop and buttoned collar. The mods adopted it almost immediately and it became the shirt to wear under a Harrington or a parka. Sixty years on, the Oxford button-down and the gingham check are still the pieces people come to Ben Sherman for.
The brand sits at the centre of mod style clothing and crosses over naturally into Oasis-inspired and 90s looks, which is why it fits so well alongside Gabicci, Pretty Green and Trojan in the RD1 line-up.
